Samsung XO
During the early days of text messaging, I led the first ID collaboration project between Samsung and T-mobile. I organized the project scope, schedule, deliverables, and worked with specialists at T-Mobile to conduct user testing. My design contribution was the XO, which was first considered as a replacement for popular Sidekick, then later produced as the Samsung Comeback.
Because we worked closely with the Carrier and Samsung’s engineers from the beginning, the production phone (photos with red accents) looked remarkably similar to the original 2D concept (shown in green).
Working with T-Mobile’s in-house research team, we conducted qualitative and quantitative research based on our “messaging fanatic” customers. These were teens who sent over 1200 texts per month - a new category at the time.
It was my job to keep the project organized and on-schedule. We met all of our deadlines and made five design proposals, two of which were selected for development by T-Mobile.
