SanDisk Professional PRO-BLADE
A new workflow standard for film studios.
I led the design of a line of PRO-BLADE mags and readers that creates a new standard for high-speed data capture used in the film industry. We conducted research interviews with cinematographers, photographers, and film production professionals to support the design process. The research led us to a patent-pending color coding system for cables and connectors. We worked closely with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to optimize the design for manufacturing.
We began with a goal to build a new tool to optimize the workflow of audio and video capture for creative professionals. We tested configurations of components to address connectors, size, function, and thermal efficiency. We brought all the elements together to form a mag that is compact and effective. The final design includes an asymmetric notch that makes it impossible to orient the mag incorrectly in the reader.
